While in China students spent 1 week in Beijing and stayed at the High School in the city. Every day students took four-hour classes divided into spoken Chinese, taught by Harvard-Westlake teachers, and culture and history, taught by the school’s teachers. After Beijing, students visited Hangzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai to see local tourist attractions. Students had the chance to try the authentic Chinese food and to experience local culture, such as calligraphy writing and Tai chi.
"The WLSA conference in Shanghai was an exceptional opportunity to interact with and befriend students from around the world (China, US, South Africa, United Kingdom, and Australia), to learn from each others' educational systems, and to bridge cultures differences. I learned the importance of cooperation between schools across the globe to exchange innovative learning ideas so that we can develop into future global citizens."
Cami Katz, Student
"By going to Shanghai I was not only exposed to Chinese culture, which can be done artificially in a classroom, but I was able to personally experience Chinese culture. These experiences gave me a deeper and more expansive understanding of Chinese customs and habits.”
